Mission Statement
Type The current enrollment is 600 students who reside in Springfield and 22 surrounding towns in Hampden and Hampshire Counties in Massachusetts and Hartford County in Connecticut. They represent more than 60 parishes and come from nearly 40 different schools. The Class of 2007 saw 96% of the graduates matriculate at schools for further study in the Fall of 2007. Among the schools that students enrolled in are American International College, Boston College, Boston University, College of the Holy Cross, Fairfield University, Fordham University, Northeastern University, Princeton University, Providence College, Springfield College, Western New England College, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, University of Rochester and Villanova University. Cathedral’s school schedule follows a seven-period day, and the academic program includes four full credits of religion and English, three full credits of mathematics, lab sciences and social studies, at least two years of a foreign language, 2 semesters of physical education and 1 semester each of health and introduction to computers. Additional electives are available in business, computer studies, fine arts and journalism. Cathedral High School offers Advanced Placement courses in nine disciplines: English Language and Composition, English Literature, American History, Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Latin. Accreditation Faculty More than half of the faculty members have been at Cathedral more than
five years, and two-thirds hold a masters degree in education or their
discipline. One person holds a doctoral degree.
