The overall goals of the visual arts department are to:
- Provide a sequential, cumulative program of concepts and skills from ninth through twelfth grade.
- Promote visual literacy through studies in art history, aesthetics, art appreciation and art criticism
as well as through studio experience.
- Provide students with experiences that promote individual learning styles, self-awareness, self-motivation, self-expression and self-esteem.
- Provide experiences in concept development, interpretation,
application and evaluation, creative problem solving, critical thinking and expression.
- Promote interdisciplinary experiences which aid students in the integration of ideas, concepts and processes,
and in a holistic perception of their world.
- Promote understanding of the diverse cultures in society as reflected in the arts in order to prepare students to appropriately participate in the present and
contribute to the future.
The curriculum for the visual arts department is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and is inclusive of the Learning Standards 1-10. |
