College Counseling Students who have applied to colleges should be checking their application status with the individual colleges. It is their responsibility to follow up with the counseling department if the schools are still waiting for supporting materials. Most colleges provide applicants with an ID number to access this information. Many schools are no longer sending out missing credential letters so students need to keep on top of this process. There is a rich variety of sources on the web that will help with your college and financial aid search. Below are a few valuable links that can help with the process. Any Senior interested in earning college credit may apply to STCC for a free course. Go to the STCC website and download an application for the College Now program and bring it to your counselor for her signature. Schools and Programs - Link with college and university homepages. and Petersons Admissions Testing All students (from the 9th grade on) should consider taking SAT subject tests at the completion of the year they are enrolled in a class. Many of the more competitive colleges require subject tests as an admission requirement and it would benefit the student to take the test while the information is still fresh.
College Representive Visits - During the fall months there are college representatives who come to the guidance center to speak to interested students about their college or university. These visits are a good way to learn about particular colleges and to begin to establish some individual rapport with the college one hopes to attend. Students are allowed to meet with up to four different college representatives. Monthly lists of visits are posted in the guidance office and in homerooms. To see the current list, click HERE.
