| Reading Workshop offers students the opportunity to
practice and reinforce all the skills developed through the grade
nine curriculum. The activities of Reading Workshop are structured
to complement students’ endeavors in English 1. Students learn
how to set a purpose for their reading, to use a variety of reading
tools during their reading, and to determine if they achieved their
purpose after their reading. Also, students will use these strategies
to successfully read their history, science, and math textbooks. With
opportunities to draft, peer edit, teacher-conference, and revise
on a laptop computer, students practice skills in writing, language,
cooperation, and teamwork. |

| Journalism is offered to sophomores, juniors, and seniors
who are interested in the study and practice of mass communications
with emphasis on the technical aspects of news writing, editing, and
producing a school newspaper. The student also learns the principles
of journalistic ethics and responsibility. The third year course is
designed for students interested in a possible career in journalism.
To provide experienced leadership for the Chronicle, the third year
also explores Internet and broadcast journalism. The staff attends
class each day and may work at other times to meet deadlines. |

students to apply the writing process to the creation of original
poems, short stories, and one-act plays. Students keep a journal of
