At the heart of the Foreign Language Department
at Cathedral High School is an earnest desire to prepare our students
for the challenge of global citizenship. By learning French or Spanish,
our students gain an intimate connection to another culture which will
broaden their minds to the understanding and acceptance of our new cultures
for the rest of their lives.
Guided by the standards of the Massachusetts Foreign Language Curriculum
Framework, students will learn the target language through modes of speaking,
reading, writing, and listening and traditional pen-and-paper means as
well as the more progressive methods of
Cooperative exercises and project-based assignments. Students also experience
their new language through utilization of technology in the classroom,
the library’s computer lab, and the department’s SMARTBoard
room. Students are always encouraged to integrate their language education
into that of their other educational disciplines in order to develop a
comprehensive understanding of their world.
