This course emphasizes speaking and listening skills. A student should be able to speak well enough to communicate within his/her range of experience, read, write, and understand the material covered. The culture of the French-speaking world is introduced as part of the curriculum with the inclusion of cultural readings and video segments. Some projects, readings, songs, holiday customs and cuisine appropriate to the learning levels are also included.

This course leads to a practical control of the four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The emphasis is on communication and self-expression in the language. The course reinforces an understanding of the fundamentals of French grammar and of familiarity with the culture of the French-speaking world.

This course reinforces the foundation already acquired in levels one and two. The audio-lingual skills are developed further by encouraging conversations on topics geared to the student’s ability. Literary selections are read and discussed in order to encourage conversation and to develop the reading and writing skills of the student.

This course aids the student in acquiring greater proficiency in the language. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills are reinforced through the study of grammar, literature, culture and civilization. The students explore the language through creative writing and reading.

This course is a continuation of French 4 with more of an emphasis on literature and culture. Students research topics of interest and educate each other through papers and presentations.

It reinforces the foundation already acquired in levels one and two and provides for the development and expansion of vocabulary, useful conversation, and grammatical structures. Short oral presentations, essays and projects are also part of the curriculum.

This course helps the student develop greater facility in both oral and written expression of the language. This goal is accomplished through continued reinforcement of previously learned grammatical structures, with an emphasis on creative expression and by the careful study of short literary selections and culturally authentic materials. Hispanic culture is also studied in depth through selected films, music, and research based projects.

451 Honors Spanish 5

This course is a continuation of Spanish 4 with more emphasis placed on the literature, culture and civilization of Spanish speaking countries. Included in this course are projects, oral presentations, and a review of Spanish grammar and expanded conversational skills.
