  Mathematics Goals  

Department Philosophy
The Mathematics Department believes in helping each student to develop and reach his/her potential. As educators, we recognize that each student has a unique personality and special talents. Therefore, we try to develop the student's ability to think analytically, quantitatively, logically, and critically and to equip each student with the necessary information to meet the challenges to today's technological society. We feel that it is important to help them develop the self-confidence necessary to assure their personal success and advancement in mathematical knowledge. Our curriculum is designed to expand, challenge and motivate each student to achieve to his/her potential and ability level. To this end, we strive to help each student to view mathematics as as necessary tool for survival in a rapidly changing world and to prepare them to become productive and successful members of society.

Mathematics Department Goals

As a department, we strive to help our students to:

  1. Have a better understanding and appreciation of the role of mathematics in contemporary life.
  2. Build their self-confidence in a way that allows them to achieve personal success and enhance their mathematical knowledge.
  3. Develop higher order thinking skills by exploring logical thought and sound reasoning.
  4. Realize how mathematics is integrated with other fields of study.
  5. Grow in the knowledge of systems and basic concepts that solidify the cumulative nature of mathematical learning and understanding.
  6. Increase their potential and view mathematics in the context of its contributions to history and to our technological society.
  7. Verbalize mathematical concepts, clearly express them in writing and connect them to teach other and the world around them.
