Campus Ministry

The Philosophy of Campus Ministry
Cathedral High School, founded by the diocese of Springfield and long staffed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, maintains, within the philosophy of the Campus Ministry program, the Josephite charism that for so long defined these halls. The Sisters of Saint Joseph (SSJ), an order founded by Rev. Jean-Paul Médaille, S. J., were charged with a mission of serving those most in need. From the Jesuits, the Sisters of Saint Joseph adopted the goal of excellence, striving for the more, yet they refused to ever let the ends justify the means. The Sisters recognized the profound love that they had of God and for all God’s people and in so doing attempted to create communities where all were invited to grow in love of God and of neighbor.

We strive to continue that mission at Cathedral today through the Office of Campus Ministry.

CHS Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry exists for you! The purpose of the campus ministry program at Cathedral is to fulfill the spiritual needs of the students, faculty and staff at the school. Whether it is through formal liturgies and prayer services, service opportunities and mission trips, or religion classes and retreats, there are more than enough opportunities to get involved and more than enough places to visit on your faith journey.

The Office of Campus Ministry is staffed by Mr. Emanuel Vasconcelos (Mr. V) and he can be found in Room 229. His door is always open for students looking for answers to questions about the Campus Ministry program, or if students or faculty want to talk, or share joys and sadness. When not in his office, Mr. V can usually be found in Room 226, the Campus Ministry meeting room, which is utilized mainly before and after school when all students can socialize, relax or study. The room is also used for meetings of student ministers, service trip information sessions, etc.

The Campus Ministry program is broken up into four pillars: worship and prayer, service, formation, and community. There are numerous opportunities for involvement in each of these areas of Campus Ministry, and these are open to all Cathedral High School students.
