Religious Studies Department
Goals
The Religious Studies Department of Cathedral High School seeks to provide
the academic basis of religion as well as the opportunity for spiritual
reflection, prayer, and community service. The question, “What does
it mean to be a Roman Catholic?” incorporates the Gospel values
and encompasses the whole person. Ultimately, after four years of religion
at CHS, the student will be able to answer this question.
From the study of sacred scripture and the traditions of the Church, the school’s mission is realized with the call to
love God, others and self.
Some of the goals of the Religious Studies Dept. are:
- The student will understand aspects of the Roman Catholic Church and
its rituals, traditions, liturgy, and worship.
- The student will demonstrate what it means to be a moral person according
to Roman Catholic teachings.
- The student will understand the basic tenets of the major world religions.
- The students will communicate Jesus’ call to justice as found
in the Sacred Scriptures.
- The student will understand the concept of Christian service and its
role in the life of a Christian.
- The student will experience different styles of Christian prayer and
will be encouraged to foster a personal relationship with God.
