CHS Alumnus Drafted by MLS Team
James Thorpe (CHS ’03) was drafted in the 4th round by DC United in the recent Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. He is the first alumnus drafted by a MLS team.
After graduating from Cathedral Thorpe played goalie for Franklin Pierce University, where he was part of a national championship team as a senior and was selected first-team All-American. Thorpe was honored as the Defensive Player of the NCAA Division II Final Four and was selected as DII Player of the Year.
Joe Pantuosco (’67) has coached soccer at Cathedral for 30 seasons, and he commented, “James was ‘our alpha and our omega!’ He played forward and would score a goal, and then we would shift him to goalie and he would shut our opponents out! James was the most promising player I have coached at Cathedral. He has continued to work hard, and I am delighted for him, and wish him all the best in his effort to play in MLS.” |
